MCBS MOTHER HOUSE, Kaduvakulam

Est. Year : 1936

History
Little Flower Ashram, in the Archdiocese of Changanaserry, is the Mother House of the Congregation. Its foundation was laid on 1st August 1935. The house was blessed and formally inaugurated by Mar James Kalassery, the then Bishop of Changanaserry, on 31st December 1956. Until the erection of the novitiate house at Kanjirappally it functioned also as the novitiate house. For several years it also functioned as the minor seminary of the Congregation. The chapel was reconstructed and consecrated on 17th May 1972. A new extension to the ashram building was constructed in 1977. In 1987 it became the study house for the theology students of the congregation. As the theology study house ceased functioning in 2001, the Mother House came totally under the possession and use of MCBS Emmaus Province, as per the agreement at the time of erection of the provinces. A perpetual adoration centre was blessed and opened in this house on 13th October, 2004, by His Grace Mar Joseph Powathil. The mortal remains of our founders, Rev. Fr. Mathew Alakalam and Rev. Fr. Joseph Paredam, were exhumed and transferred to Lisieux chapel, Athirampuzha. In 2006 Emmaus Public School started to function at the Mother House. In 2009 the first year of the mission minor seminary started to function here. At present the Mother House also functions as the residence for the college-going seminarians. The new church for the Little Flower Parish was consecrated on 1 July 2012.
